Henry Ford, Vehicle Visionary: Gold Character

Henry Ford (1863 to 1947) was an American industrialist who founded the Ford Motor Company in 1903. His Model T, introduced in 1908, and the moving assembly line he began using in 1913 made cars affordable for millions of people. He also used his own newspaper to spread antisemitic propaganda in the 1920s.

Real history

The real history

Ford was born on July 30, 1863, on his family's farm in what is now Dearborn, Michigan. He became a skilled machinist and in 1893 was promoted to chief engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company in Detroit. On June 16, 1903, he founded the Ford Motor Company.

The Model T went into production in 1908 at Ford's Piquette Avenue plant in Detroit. In 1910 the company opened a much bigger factory in Highland Park, Michigan, designed by architect Albert Kahn. There, in 1913, Ford began using a moving assembly line to build whole cars, bringing the work to the workers. In 1914 he started paying a $5 wage for an eight-hour day, far more than most factory jobs paid. By 1927, when the 15 millionth Model T rolled off the line, cars had become an ordinary part of American life.

Ford also had a dark side. In 1918 he bought a weekly newspaper, The Dearborn Independent. From May 1920 to January 1922 it ran a series of antisemitic articles called "The International Jew," drawn largely from a forged text. Ford dealers were told to hand out copies, and the articles were collected into books and translated into many languages. In 1927 Ford signed a public apology, but the books kept circulating, and leaders of Nazi Germany praised him.

Ford died on April 7, 1947.

How the card plays

Ford costs 5 crystals and is a 4/5 Legendary Founder with the Legacy tag. When he arrives, Build 1 Tinker Token, and every enemy character gets -1/-1 until the end of the turn.

That shrink is his real power. Enemy characters with 1 health are destroyed, which clears out rival tokens and small early plays, and everything else hits softer while you charge that turn. Play him on a turn when you already have characters ready to charge.

Washington, Nation Builder gains +0/+2 for each other Founder, and Ford counts. Cornelius Vanderbilt adds +1/+1 to your other characters when it charges, so the two together swing combat hard. With Nikola Tesla, Father of Electricity on your field, Ford gets +1/+1 as a Legacy character.
