The real history
By the summer of 1781, British General Henry Clinton had ordered General Charles Cornwallis to hold Yorktown, Virginia. The town had a deep-water port on the York River, which made it a safe harbor for the British fleet.
George Washington and the French commander, the Comte de Rochambeau, saw a chance to trap him. They marched their armies south while a French fleet under Admiral de Grasse sailed into the Chesapeake Bay. On September 5, that fleet beat a British fleet at the Battle of the Capes. The damaged British ships went back to New York, and the French stayed behind to seal off the bay, so Cornwallis had no way out by sea and no reinforcements.
The siege began on September 28. The National Park Service counts about 17,600 American and French soldiers against about 8,300 British troops, plus German auxiliaries. On October 17 Cornwallis asked for a cease-fire, the terms were settled on October 18, and the British army formally surrendered on October 19, 1781.
The war did not end that day. Britain still had around 26,000 troops in North America. But the defeat shook the government in London. In March 1782 Parliament resolved against continuing the war, and a final peace treaty recognizing American independence was signed in 1783.

How the card plays
Siege of Yorktown costs 7 crystals and is a Garnet Event. Its effect is to destroy up to 2 enemy characters with cost 4 or less.
Because it says "up to," it still works if only one cheap target is out, but it is most satisfying when your opponent has two cheap blockers or support characters on the field. It cannot touch expensive threats, so save something else for those. At 7 crystals it is a late play, and New Deal helps you get there with an extra crystal and a card. After the field is cleared, Yorktown, the Yorktown Location, gives your characters +2/+0 for an all-out attack, and Marquis de Lafayette adds two Steel Golem tokens to fill the space you just opened.
