Garnet Cards: Rebels, Pirates and War

Garnet is the color of Rebels, Pirates and War. Its cards are the fighters, troublemakers and turning points of American history: Blackbeard and Bartholomew Roberts, Betsy Ross, Susan B. Anthony, Ulysses S. Grant, Benedict Arnold and Aaron Burr, plus battles from Lexington and Concord to Bunker Hill and Yorktown. Its Leader is Blackbeard.

How Garnet plays

Garnet is the aggressive color. Cheap characters such as Rebel, Two Sided Hound and Charles Lee come down early and charge, and Swift lets some of them attack the turn they arrive. Garnet punishes rivals who sit back: many of its cards make your opponent discard a random card when you charge or hit a Leader, so a Garnet deck wins by emptying the rival's hand as well as their Life.

Garnet also has the most direct removal in Set 1. Andrew Jackson deals 1 damage to each enemy character, Siege of Yorktown destroys up to two small characters, Battle of Bunker Hill hits one target hard and then everything else, and The Boston Massacre simply destroys an enemy character.

The Rebels archetype

The Collection groups Garnet's plan under Rebels: cards with the Rebel subtype and cards that care about them. Blackbeard gives your Rebels +1/+0, Susan B. Anthony gives them +0/+1, and Whiskey Rebellion rests every enemy character while your Rebels get +2/+0 for the turn.

Heavy hitters

Garnet's big cards end games. Ulysses S. Grant and Blackbeard both have Double Chapter, so a hit takes 2 Life, and the Abrams Tank equips +5/+5 and Double Chapter.
