Game plan

Blackbeard leads the Garnet deck: plunder and pressure. His passive gives every Rebel you control +1/+0, and whenever his Leader hits the enemy Leader, your rival discards a random card. With a Leader power of 6, he can start that pressure from his second turn.

The plan is to attack early and often with Rebels, force your rival to block or lose cards, and keep their hand small so they run out of Counters and answers.

His Command, Broadside (5 crystals), deals 2 damage to every enemy character. It is your answer to a wide field of tokens or small characters, and it often opens the way for a big turn of charges right after.

His three Signature cards cost 1 less under him. Edward Teach "Blackbeard" is a 6/6 with Double Chapter whose charge makes your rival discard a random card. Bartholomew Roberts makes your rival discard when he arrives if one of your characters charged this turn, and draws you a card when he hits a Leader. The Queen Anne's Revenge equips +3/+2 and Explore, and makes your rival discard a random card if you control Blackbeard.

Play him like a raid: charge first, then add to the board. Count your rival's hand before you charge, and save Broadside for the turn it clears the most.

Real history

The real Blackbeard

Edward Teach, known as Blackbeard, was one of the most feared pirates of the early 1700s. In May 1718 he blockaded the port of Charleston, South Carolina, with his flagship Queen Anne's Revenge and a small fleet, and released his hostages in exchange for a chest of medicine. Weeks later the Queen Anne's Revenge ran aground at Beaufort Inlet, North Carolina.

He accepted a royal pardon but returned to piracy. On November 22, 1718, he was killed at Ocracoke Inlet in a battle with sailors led by Lieutenant Robert Maynard of the Royal Navy, in an expedition sent by the governor of Virginia. The wreck of his flagship was found in 1996, and divers and archaeologists have been recovering it ever since.

In the game's story

A forty-gun ship sailed out of a rift into Errata Harbor, and the harbor master took early retirement.

In Lost Chapters' frame story, history's heroes fall into a world called Marginalia. It is fiction; the history above is real.
